MA in History, Bowling Green State University
Graduate Certificate in Public History, Bowling Green State University
BA in History with Minors in Philosophy and Classical Civilization, Bowling Green State University

Though I’m originally from Virginia Beach, I’ve lived in Ohio for the last two decades and consider myself much more a native Ohioan than Virginian. I’ve always enjoyed learning in any form I can find and perhaps it was this thirst for knowledge which drove me into both a Bachelors and a subsequent Masters program at Bowling Green State University, the former earned in 2015 and the latter in 2020.

Higher education always felt rather comfortable to me. I enjoyed the coursework and the overall atmosphere of learning and self-improvement that a university seems inevitably to foster. As a result, it seemed only natural that, as a newly minted MA, I would focus my job search in the field that had always felt so much like home. My love of learning and desire to help others have access to the same educational opportunities I’ve been lucky enough to experience made admissions a particularly enticing field, so when I heard about an opening in Tiffin University’s Online Admissions department I jumped at the chance.

Outside of work, I fill my time in any number of ways. Reading has always been a major focus of my life and I still devour nearly every book I can get my hands on, regardless of genre. Additionally, I’ve always enjoyed watching sports, mainly baseball and football, and I’ve fostered a deep appreciation for gaming, both in a virtual environment and in a more traditional tabletop structure. I tend to spend my weekends with my family and particularly enjoy the company of my young niece and nephew, who are more than adorable enough to make up for their rambunctious nature.

MBA, Tiffin University

I graduated from Tiffin University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in marketing. I also earned my Master of Business Administration in General Management degree from TU. My experiences here were so great, I wanted to help other students pursue their educational goals like I did. That’s what led me to become an admissions counselor at TU in 2014.

One of the greatest challenges I’ve ever experienced was pursuing my MBA while participating in athletics and working part-time. I was fortunate to have a great support system of friends, family, coaches and TU faculty and staff. It was hard work, but I accomplished my goal to get an MBA, something I never expected to do.

I think the best part of my job is working with people from so many different backgrounds. Our online students are all at different points in their lives, but they have this in common: they all want to better themselves and have a rewarding future. I believe that whether or not someone has been successful in the past, they can be successful if they set their mind to it. I encourage students to have faith in themselves and take advantage of the resources available to them. We have a great faculty and staff at TU who are here to help.

I’m very dedicated to my job, but like I did when I was a student, I have a life outside TU. When I’m not working, I enjoy working out, watching and playing sports, and spending time with my wife, Brittany, and our dog, Dora.

BS in Psychology, Baldwin Wallace University

I am the first point of contact for graduate students enrolled in the Master of EducationMaster of Science in Psychology and Master of Humanities, and Bachelor of Arts programs. I guide students on their academic journeys by registering and withdrawing them from courses, monitoring class participation and grades, and fielding phone calls, e-mails and visitor questions.

I worked in the sports information department at Baldwin Wallace University while pursuing my undergraduate degree. I found that I really enjoyed the behind-the-scenes processes of higher education and have worked at TU since 2013.

I know how to help students through a wide variety of issues, although new challenges come up now and then. As an example, I had a student who was a resident of Puerto Rico scheduled to begin her graduate program the week before Hurricane Irma hit the island. After the storm, she was able to find areas with functioning Internet and phone service to update me on her progress. She temporarily relocated, continued her incredible communication and successfully completed her first set of classes. She went on to complete her degree without withdrawing from any classes or taking any time off. Amazing!

In my experience, the key to success in a graduate program is time management. Students who find time to read the course material and complete the assignments are well on their way to a graduate degree. I compare it to my own life. As busy as I am, I find time to practice yoga because it is important to me. I have practiced since 2003 and been a certified instructor since 2010.

Bachelor's in English, Ohio Northern University
Master's in Rhetoric and Writing, University of Findlay

As someone who grew up in a small town, I always felt the urge to follow the path of higher education. This path first led me to obtain my Bachelor’s degree in English from Ohio Northern University in 2019. I then went on to receive my Master’s degree from University of Findlay in Rhetoric and Writing in 2022.

During this journey I discovered a love for helping students and the atmosphere in higher education. Higher education provided an environment and opportunities for students to expand their knowledge and help develop themselves personally. I taught several classes at Findlay as a teaching assistant and being able to interact with students just beginning their journeys and watching them develop was one of the most rewarding experiences so when I had the opportunity to help students in admissions, I was thrilled. I am passionate about helping others achieve the same educational opportunities because my own academic journey was vital to my development professionally and personally. Higher ed is an amazing place for students, no matter where they are in life, to better themselves and to discover new ideas.

Outside of work, I carry my passion into a variety of things. Reading is essential to who I am so you will always catch me with a book somewhere in my vicinity as well as a notebook for writing poetry. Additionally, I enjoy watching sports, mainly ice hockey, and am a big fan of memes. In order to keep my nerd status, I love watching Star Wars and am ready to devour anything fantasy or sci fi related. I also hold a love for animals and regularly volunteer at pet shelters in order to get my dose of animal loving.

Bachelor's in English, Western Michigan University

I grew up a native Michigander, though I spent plenty of time in Ohio for most of my childhood. I spent many summers visiting Lake Erie and even spent three summers while in undergrad working (and having way too much fun) at Cedar Point. I graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor’s degree in English with an emphasis in creative writing in 2018,  and moved to Ohio with my husband, Alex, shortly thereafter. Rather than jumping right into higher education, I started out with a much younger crowd – namely, elementary school kids. I spent the first four years after earning my degree being the orange-peeling, tear-wiping, and fun-loving supervisor for a before and after school enrichment program, and loved every second of getting to help mold and encourage little minds.

With the urge to constantly grow, I set out to experience something new. My biggest drive in life is to constantly be learning new things, and my enthusiasm for education at all levels caused me to fall in love with Tiffin University’s campus and mission of flexible and equitable education for all. I love talking to people and assisting others with their goals, so getting the opportunity to be placed with the admissions team here at TU as a Graduate Admissions Counselor was the perfect fit. Though I myself have not yet furthered my education at the graduate level, I hope that my passion and drive for helping others to achieve their educational goals and dreams will allow me to welcome you into the TU family!

When I’m not working – and even when I am – I am a loud and proud nerd. I’m a lover of literature and film, with my true passions lying mostly with the fantasy/science fiction genres, though I will always have a special place in my heart for anything horror related. I run a collaborative writing website in my free time, and play tabletop and video games as often as I can with my family and friends. I’m not a total hermit, however, and love being outdoors. I camp as often as I can, am a passionate amusement park fanatic, and spend a lot of time in my yard either hosting bonfires or playing with my two dogs, Oliver and Akali.

B.S. in Education, Heidelberg University

Growing up I always wanted to be an educator of some kind. This led me to completing my Bachelor’s degree in Education from Heidelberg University in 2023. While completing undergrad I fell in love with higher education as well as the town of Tiffin.  Keeping this love going I began my professional journey in higher education here at Tiffin University. Higher education serves as a place for people from all walks of life to further their life and I am honored to be a small part in that journey.

In my personal life, I have a few passions. One such passion is my love for sports. You will be hard pressed to find a Sunday in the fall that I am not glued to my tv watching the NFL. Some other things I really enjoy are watching anime, romantic comedies, and spending time with my family, especially my adorable baby nephew

Bachelor of Arts English (Tiffin University, 2019)
Master of Arts - English (John Carroll University, 2023)

I first joined the Tiffin University community as an undergraduate student in 2016. Having a lifelong passion for language, I majored in English and ultimately graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in the spring of 2019. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Tiffin and found the experience to be instrumental in my academic, personal and professional development. While I was challenged intellectually, I always felt supported due to the consistent encouragement of faculty and staff.

I continued my education at John Carroll University, where I obtained a master of arts degree in English in 2023. As a graduate assistant, I worked with students on multiple fronts – as an instructor of first-year writing, teaching assistant, writing center consultant, and slightly older peer. Helping these students navigate their own academic journeys was one of the most rewarding aspects of my graduate school experience, and I am excited to continue assisting students as an academic advisor.

In my free time, you can find me reading, painting, creating latch-hook art, and spending time with friends, family, or my two dogs, Sasha and Ruby.

Ph.D., Counselor Education, Mississippi State University
M.Ed., Professional Development and Secondary Education, University of Wisconsin River Falls
M.Ed., Counselor Education, National Changhua University of Education, Taiwan
B.Ed., Counselor Education, National Changhua University of Education, Taiwan

Born and raised in Taiwan, Dr. Law’s dream since childhood was to become a teacher. This dream came true when she became an instructor in the Department of Social Work at Shih-Chien University in 1983, after obtaining her M. Ed. in counseling at Changhua University of Education. During her seven years at Shih-Chien University, she was active academically and administratively on campus. Academically, she researched factors that influenced college students’ adjustment to campus life, and the psychological well-being of a low-income family. After three years, she attained the rank of associate professor and taught psychology, group practice in social work, and social work practicum.  During the same period, she served as the director of extra curriculum for two years, and of the counseling center for another two years.

In order to pursue a higher level of professional development, Dr. Law relocated to the United States in 1990, obtaining a second M. Ed. from the University of Wisconsin-River Fall in 1991, and a Ph.D. from Mississippi State University (MSU) in counselor education with a minor in psychology in 1995.  During her time at MSU, she worked as a counselor in the international students office and in the counseling center, and as a research assistant at the Rehabilitation Research and Training Center in Blindness and Low Vision. In addition, she also passed the examination to become a National Certified Counselor (NCC).

In 1995, Dr. Law returned to being an associate professor at Shih-Chien University in Taiwan, and was also appointed to be the director of the counseling center.  One year later, Dr. Law returned to the United States, serving as the executive director of Asian American Community Services (AACS), as well as a counselor, cultural competence trainer, and interpreter trainer. AACS is a non-profit organization designed to provide prevention and intervention programs for Asian Americans in Central Ohio. During this time, she passed the examination to become a Licensed Professional Clinic Counselor (LPCC) in Ohio, and was also actively involved as a committee member for many non-profit organizations in central Ohio, such as the Ohio Domestic Violence Network, Ohio Coalition of Sexual Assault Association, the BEST program of American Cancer Society, and the American Red Cross. In these settings, Dr. Law gained significant experience working with clients and students of diverse cultures and backgrounds.  Also during this time, Dr. Law served as a field instructor for the College of Social Work at the Ohio State University, as an adjunct faculty member in the University of Dayton’s Department of Counselor Education and Human Services, and as an adjunct faculty member in Columbus State Community College’s Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences.

Dr. Law joined Tiffin University as an Assistant Professor in the Fall of 2005, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2010, and to Full Professor in 2016. Dr. Law has published and presented books and papers, conducted trainings regionally, nationally, and internationally focusing on topics such as student interest in research, statistics anxiety, the effectiveness of drug treatment programs, the psychological well-being of correctional officers, overcoming depression, finding hope, and acculturation issues for immigrants.  Her publications and presentations, in both English and Chinese, are a testimony to her interest in research.

Dr. Law’s teaching focus at TU is psychology, teaching such courses as Introduction to Psychology, Introduction to Counseling, Research Design, Multicultural Issues in Society, Abnormal Psychology, and Social Psychology at the undergraduate level, and Statistical Application to Criminal Justice, Forensic Counseling, and Advanced Psychological Assessment Theory at the graduate level in the criminal justice program.  On campus, you can also find Dr. Law working very closely with international students to enhance their acculturalization a new land.  She does this by teaching First-Year Experience for international students in the English as Second Language program, serving as a Faculty Advisor for the Chinese Students and Scholar Association, serving as a member of the Diversity Committee and the International Students Support Committee, and by conducting culturally-related programs for the TU community as needed.

Dr. Law is also a member of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the American Counseling Association (ACA). Her teaching goal is to draw on her multicultural and clinical experiences in the classroom to make the subject matter more enjoyable, relevant, and practical to both her undergraduate and graduate students and to fulfill their educational needs.  All of this is reflected in her selection as an Excellence in Teaching award recipient at Tiffin University in 2016.

Bachelor of Science in Sport Management, Bowling Green State University

I graduated from Bowling Green State University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management. Following graduation I moved to Florence, SC to pursue my career in intercollegiate athletics for the past 3 years before moving back to Ohio to start my position at TU.

I made the career change from athletics to admissions to better suit my current lifestyle. Working in athletics I really got to know all the student-athletes and enjoyed seeing them grow not only in their sport but into young adults. I decided I wanted to stay in higher education because of how much I enjoy seeing students better themselves and take their next steps in life. I enjoy learning the different backgrounds of students I work with which makes me excited to work with the online community.

My experience has shown that you may have a set plan for your future but in the end you never know where life will take you. I am eager to help people take the next steps in their life and see them grow in their time at TU.

Outside of working at TU I enjoy hiking, working out, watching football, and most importantly spending time with family and friends. I also enjoy binge watching shows and having Disney movie nights with my nephew.

Bachelor of Business Administration in Management, Tiffin University

After my service in the United States Army Infantry, I worked in the hospitality industry for nearly 10 years. After several years within the industry, I discovered a 4-year degree was necessary to advance toward my goals of management. After careful research, I decided to attend Tiffin University in 2013 and graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management. After working at a resort in Palm Beach, Florida for several years, I relocated to Dallas, Texas to continue personal growth. After a few more years in the hospitality industry, I decided to make a career change.

In 2020 I moved back to my childhood city of Cincinnati, Ohio to pursue a career in Property Management. While in Cincinnati, I frequently visited Tiffin to meet with friends and enjoy the area of my alma mater. Eventually, I decided to relocate back to Tiffin in early 2022 with the intention of continuing my education and seeking a career within education and learning. Having over 4 years of experience as a seated student at Tiffin University, with a firm understanding of the University’s campus and culture, I decided to apply my knowledge as a tool for current/future students.

Living in Tiffin again has revitalized my passion for continuing education and enjoying the journey. I am very motivated to provide insight, support, and encouragement to all people with a desire to learn. As a Graduate Admissions Counselor, I am personally invested in the overall success and betterment of everyone I speak with on a daily basis.

When out of the office, I enjoy spending time with family/friends, camping, sports, grilling, and meeting interesting new people!

She also completed the teacher certification program for Integrated Language Arts at Bowling Green State University.

Prior to Tiffin University, Dr. Opfer has taught grammar, composition, and literature at the University of Toledo, Owens Community College, Northern Illinois University, Kishwaukee College, and Rock Valley College. Schedule an Appointment

Having completed my MBA online and from Tiffin University, I know firsthand what a quality education one receives from this institution. I was privileged enough to serve as the Graduate Assistant of Career Services for two years before transitioning into this role. I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting students from all different backgrounds and it is with much excitement that I get to continue meeting new students and being an advocate for Tiffin University!

I grew up in Upper Sandusky, about 25 minutes south of Tiffin. What drew me to TU was the flexibility to complete my degree online while still feeling like I was a part of campus. Even though I never met my classmates or professors face to face, the class sizes were still small enough, allowing for a more personal relationship with all constituents. My experience was great; it is my hope to assist other students in reaching their educational goals, which excites me about this position!

Like everyone else, I experienced challenges while pursuing my education. Despite these hurdles, I never gave up; I learned how to adapt and gained some exceptional life skills along the way. Juggling academics with work and children is no easy task, but I accomplished my educational goals through time management and organizational skills. Being successful comes down to how motivated you are to work for what you want and then pushing yourself to reach it. Pursuing an education online allowed me to have the freedom to combine all my schedules.

When I am not working, you can find me with my two children, Lexie and Lennex. Lexie is very athletic and can be found cheering, doing gymnastics, playing baseball or touching up her karate skills. Lennex is her biggest fan and can often be heard clapping and yelling her on!

Before joining Tiffin University in 2016, I spent nearly 30 years in social work, supervision and education. I can’t imagine a more fulfilling profession or job than where I am right now. It’s always a great day to be a Dragon!

When I’m not working, I spend most of my time with my husband, our four kids and friends. I enjoy doing anything outdoors, including attending live concerts and sporting events.

Bachelor’s of Art in Early Childhood Education, Heidelberg University
Master’s of Education in Educational Leadership, Grand Canyon University

My passion for education began at an early age and has continued into a path of lifelong learning. I earned my Bachelor’s of Art in Early Childhood Education from Heidelberg University. I taught for a couple of years and decided to further my education. Through dedication, time management and commitment, I earned my Master’s of Education in Educational Leadership through an online platform at Grand Canyon University. Pursuing further education online allowed for the balancing of work, education, and children. I initially became interested in higher education while working with students who were transitioning from school to adulthood. My interest in working in higher education intensified when my oldest son, Brendon, began pursuing his college programs and goals.

As an advisor, I am one of the first people for my students to contact with all their needs to pursue their dreams and goals.  I will guide students through their higher education experience here at Tiffin University. Life and challenges will happen but staying a motivated student is an important characteristic to utilize while completing an online degree. It is important that they have a supportive resource that will guide and encourage them to do their best!  I believe that I must be one of their biggest supporters!

Outside of work, I enjoy watching sports and road tripping through Ohio. I love the scenic shores of Lake Erie and the relaxation that waves hitting the shore brings.  I enjoy professional sports but you can generally find me cheering on my youngest son, Braylon, at his football, basketball or baseball games. My family has a true love for baseball in which we spend many weekends during the summer traveling to baseball tournaments. I have truly enjoyed being both of my son’s biggest fan!
